Earth Hour

Earth Hour is officially over~~

did you switch off your lights at home?

ahaha, i was out for dinner then, and the lights were still on as usual..

well, got home in time to see that lights were switched off by bro..good attempt..haha

i've 'practically' experienced "Earth Hour" more than once..

if you're from the same hometown as me, you would surely know..

SESB (Sabah Electricity Sendirian Berhad) is the main power supply company in KK
for us in short -- Sabah Ever Suffer Blackout / Sabah Electricity Selalu Blackout

of course it had gotten much better now as compared to last time, or is it becoz i spend much of my time in KL now that i'm studying here that i don't realize it? hmm..but i do think it's surely better than before..

anyway, you see the point?

well, if you say lights out for 1 hour is difficult?
i've tried more than 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours or even almost 1/2 a day/night without electricity..
and that means no TV, no lights, no running desktop computer at home, no fan/air-cond at all..

imagine that?

Earth Hour, at least you can still turn on your fan/air-cond at home..
*unless you wish to switch off everything that is..

but if you wonder what u can do in that hour..
the answer is simple, you can still have your laptop, listen to music..
or u can just lie down, take a nap or think about what you've done throughout the week..
chit-chat with others..*play shadow if u have some candles lit..take a break

soon, you'll realise time passes faster than you think it would..
even though you've slowed down the pace for your planned-activities..
and i reackon, in normal daily life, u waste more than 1 hour, doing unnessary things easier anyways..

actually, does Earth Hour really helps in saving energy or power?

i'm not sure really
b'coz not all will agree to do it, only those willing will take active part for it

maybe it works just as a friend suggested if they should cut off electricity from the main power station..simultaneously for 1 hour, in the whole world..

so you have no choice whether to keep your lights on or not for that mere 60 minutes (out of 365 days in a year) until it resumes again..

stopping 1 hour business wouldn't make u go bankrupt i think..

now you would realize how important the real existence of candles is ..

how useful it could be like in the olden days
(not only for the purpose of having a romantic candlelight dinner during valentine's day)

just when light bulbs were not yet been cleverly invented by Thomas Edison who was unbeaten by countless failures..

it's burning and sacrificing itself, meant for lighting up the surrounding when all else lies in darkness..

Earth Hour, i suppose it's at least efforts from conscious people who still care about the Earth to raise awareness to ignorant fellas or even to the citizens of the world as a whole..

if we don't take any useful actions now, when will we do it?
til the time when energy resource finally gets worn out?
that would be way too late..people tend to appreciate things when they lose it..how pathetic..

well, when i was at home, often i fell asleep in my room forgetting to switch off the lights before i went to bed..and i always get scolded by dad for that reason..

few reasons why you should switch off the lights when you're not using it especially when u go to bed:

1. it's bad for your eyes (there's always dim night lights if you're afraid of pure darkness)
2. it's gonna waste energy (fluorescent lights consume much power)
3. it's a power-cost saving method to cut down on your dad's expenses on house electricity usage

thus, learnt that and now sometimes i get frustrated when
some other housemates leave the bathroom lights on during bright daylight even while nobody's using it...
no one switches off the living room lights after the night either..

'rich' monash returns favour to students paying the expensive fees by turning on the air-cond in full blasts even when the students are already freezing with coldness

lights in cafeteria (or other areas) are always on the whole time reagardless if the light is sufficient or not

well, maybe becoming a nature club society member for a few years & studying ecology is taking effect on me to start caring for the environment just a little bit more..hmm

i can't stand people who throw their rubbish everywhere,
especially those who throw them right out of the car window
(does the car not have enough space to keep the rubbish til u could get down the car & dispose it in proper garbage bin later?)

simple things count to conserve energy and prevent global warming / any -ve impacts affecting the Earth:
a. recycle
b. when u only buy 1 thing from the supermarket, you can say 'no' to plastic bags
(they won't feel hurt or get angry at u ~)
c. turn on lights only when u need them

etc etc..

so many ways, and really easy..*doesn't require much energy from u
if only everyone could get united & do just a small part
you wouldn't imagine how far it could get us to..
and what difference you could have made..

After all, to me, Earth is the nicest planet of all the other planets in the universe..
the only one that is filled with humans having sensible mind to do what is ought to be right..
and future people will thank you for your courtesy & thoughtfulness for leaving some energy sources behind for them..

i just have a simple philosophy:
If you're not contributing to help out and make things better, at least don't make it worse please..

save the Earth & love the World .. peeps ~ !! =)

sorry for a long post..
have a nice day, folks .. cheers ^^
