Earth Hour

Earth Hour is officially over~~

did you switch off your lights at home?

ahaha, i was out for dinner then, and the lights were still on as usual..

well, got home in time to see that lights were switched off by bro..good attempt..haha

i've 'practically' experienced "Earth Hour" more than once..

if you're from the same hometown as me, you would surely know..

SESB (Sabah Electricity Sendirian Berhad) is the main power supply company in KK
for us in short -- Sabah Ever Suffer Blackout / Sabah Electricity Selalu Blackout

of course it had gotten much better now as compared to last time, or is it becoz i spend much of my time in KL now that i'm studying here that i don't realize it? hmm..but i do think it's surely better than before..

anyway, you see the point?

well, if you say lights out for 1 hour is difficult?
i've tried more than 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours or even almost 1/2 a day/night without electricity..
and that means no TV, no lights, no running desktop computer at home, no fan/air-cond at all..

imagine that?

Earth Hour, at least you can still turn on your fan/air-cond at home..
*unless you wish to switch off everything that is..

but if you wonder what u can do in that hour..
the answer is simple, you can still have your laptop, listen to music..
or u can just lie down, take a nap or think about what you've done throughout the week..
chit-chat with others..*play shadow if u have some candles lit..take a break

soon, you'll realise time passes faster than you think it would..
even though you've slowed down the pace for your planned-activities..
and i reackon, in normal daily life, u waste more than 1 hour, doing unnessary things easier anyways..

actually, does Earth Hour really helps in saving energy or power?

i'm not sure really
b'coz not all will agree to do it, only those willing will take active part for it

maybe it works just as a friend suggested if they should cut off electricity from the main power station..simultaneously for 1 hour, in the whole world..

so you have no choice whether to keep your lights on or not for that mere 60 minutes (out of 365 days in a year) until it resumes again..

stopping 1 hour business wouldn't make u go bankrupt i think..

now you would realize how important the real existence of candles is ..

how useful it could be like in the olden days
(not only for the purpose of having a romantic candlelight dinner during valentine's day)

just when light bulbs were not yet been cleverly invented by Thomas Edison who was unbeaten by countless failures..

it's burning and sacrificing itself, meant for lighting up the surrounding when all else lies in darkness..

Earth Hour, i suppose it's at least efforts from conscious people who still care about the Earth to raise awareness to ignorant fellas or even to the citizens of the world as a whole..

if we don't take any useful actions now, when will we do it?
til the time when energy resource finally gets worn out?
that would be way too late..people tend to appreciate things when they lose it..how pathetic..

well, when i was at home, often i fell asleep in my room forgetting to switch off the lights before i went to bed..and i always get scolded by dad for that reason..

few reasons why you should switch off the lights when you're not using it especially when u go to bed:

1. it's bad for your eyes (there's always dim night lights if you're afraid of pure darkness)
2. it's gonna waste energy (fluorescent lights consume much power)
3. it's a power-cost saving method to cut down on your dad's expenses on house electricity usage

thus, learnt that and now sometimes i get frustrated when
some other housemates leave the bathroom lights on during bright daylight even while nobody's using it...
no one switches off the living room lights after the night either..

'rich' monash returns favour to students paying the expensive fees by turning on the air-cond in full blasts even when the students are already freezing with coldness

lights in cafeteria (or other areas) are always on the whole time reagardless if the light is sufficient or not

well, maybe becoming a nature club society member for a few years & studying ecology is taking effect on me to start caring for the environment just a little bit more..hmm

i can't stand people who throw their rubbish everywhere,
especially those who throw them right out of the car window
(does the car not have enough space to keep the rubbish til u could get down the car & dispose it in proper garbage bin later?)

simple things count to conserve energy and prevent global warming / any -ve impacts affecting the Earth:
a. recycle
b. when u only buy 1 thing from the supermarket, you can say 'no' to plastic bags
(they won't feel hurt or get angry at u ~)
c. turn on lights only when u need them

etc etc..

so many ways, and really easy..*doesn't require much energy from u
if only everyone could get united & do just a small part
you wouldn't imagine how far it could get us to..
and what difference you could have made..

After all, to me, Earth is the nicest planet of all the other planets in the universe..
the only one that is filled with humans having sensible mind to do what is ought to be right..
and future people will thank you for your courtesy & thoughtfulness for leaving some energy sources behind for them..

i just have a simple philosophy:
If you're not contributing to help out and make things better, at least don't make it worse please..

save the Earth & love the World .. peeps ~ !! =)

sorry for a long post..
have a nice day, folks .. cheers ^^

field trip

lazy + tired + no time ..

so i'll just give a review on how the 'field trip' turn out..

*worry not, i think the 'barney' will describe everything in more elaborate details later, go check out from her..

hmm,
what i'm glad to find out of:

am finally safe & sound back home
*and realize how nice it is to be back home after 3 days being away from proper network communication coverage area, and places with NO internet

best place is always at home..yay!

bus ride for the trip:
considerably comfortable in the big tour bus & cool air-conditioning

accommodation:
o.O" not enough beds but luckily still has sufficient space for us to sleep anyways..
however,
noisy frogs and sounds of other insects + cold night (without good blankets) = bad quality sleep

thus, been able to wake up quite early for the 2 days, so maybe this is why i always need to drag myself off from bed in the morning back at home cos its way too comfy compared to staying in dormitories..haha

food:
simple, edible, enough to keep us all filled up a bit although it's not worth RM 10 per meal we paid for and we need to wash our own dishes after eating..

feels more like camping out during high school nature outing really..

bathrooms:
were alright but mostly with no locks, what do you reckon?

environment/surrounding:
obviously full of green trees and there were plenty of monkeys in sight everywhere at the nature park..

fireflies night:
was interesting enough, coz all we thought was hoping not to fall into the river from the sampan in that dark area..

felt like we saw christmas tree with those lightings on them even though we confirmed again that they were indeed real fireflies..haha

managed to catch 1 firefly after playing with them a few times, of course we let the poor thing go in the end before heading back to the pier coz i heard 'tangkap 1 firefly pun kena fine RM1000'..

definitely canot afford that =.=" & we're NOT that mean after all

mangrove swamp:
can't avoid getting muddy & not fun if half of the time, you're trying to pull your leg out one step after another so you don't get stuck in the mud

primary & secondary forest:
just good enough to notice that there were no leeches sucking blood out of us innocent humans or any severe insect bites..

better than i expected, at least i got back without any sign of scratches from branches or heavy trips or slippery falls..

only a couple of mosquito scars and 1 small bruise mark

it's not my first time going into forest, learn some plants (and forgetting them after that) but typically, this trip is another experience away from the city and into the nature..

of course, we had a get-away from the hustle & bustle for a while but still has to come back to reality of dreadful reports & assignments

*it's been really stressed to actually think that what we did there (with lots & lots of complicated data) eventually would lead to tough post field-trip reports anyway

anyhow, it's always good to be able to take a break in the midst of the busy life, get a breather before moving on with more things ahead

wouldn't intentionally visit either swamps or forests in near future though
but surely prefer to go somewhere more relaxing, where there's less fear of mosquito & insects..

and wouldn't mind to do something adventurous as long as there's good company during free time or holidays, where we can have real fun all the time then

so, anybody has any plans to go anywhere for a simple vacation or something (that's at least after we're done with everything)

you're most welcomed to give some good suggestions..really looking forward to next trip somewhere..

pathetically, right now, have to focus on serious stuff to do first and foremost >.<

bye bye forest..

- intermission -

what am i doing?

honestly, i don't noe..
i'm not quite sure too..

with no motivation, no inspiration, no determination
it gets me nowhere practically..

sometimes, i feel simple routine work is better than a study life, at least, i won't have to face challenges that come by every now and then, even though the satisfaction that could be achieved at the end of the day would go way beyond accomplishing something easier..

perhaps, i'm running away from reality or laziness is just taking a hold of me..
either way, that's bad of course i realize..

at times, i can't stop thinking what i really want and the reason behind why i'm doing it?
hence, if i can't find proper excuses, i find no point in doing something not worth doing unless i understand the real purpose of doing so..

anyway, i'm just crapping here..*ignore me
i feel like i'm a little ant trying to survive through huge obstacles in front..
i need to get back on track..
just hope i can get over the hurdles, one by one, no fuss, take it steady, one at a time..
i'll be fine..*fingers crossed..

well, still wish u guys have a nice day ahead =)

Day 4 ~ "Everland"

Another breakfast at hotel before we moved on..

First place to visit is:
Yeoju Premium Outlets

Well, this place is really like an open air shopping mall..with all the shops (as the name implies) selling branded stuff..adidas, nike, u name it, they got it..

Pretty much just did window shopping coz things ain’t cheap there..even though the official smallest (lowest value) ‘paper-note’ currency is already 1000 won & above (5000 & 10000 won), while their coins are worth either 100 or 500 won..
Anything there would cost at least more than 10000 won..

Basically after the free-time activity (自由活动)
We went straight for lunch..
Tada…it’s another popular dish for Koreans (韩国烤肉)

Everland theme park was our next destination

The tour guide brought us to the Safari World of the theme park
Bears, Tigers, Lions, Camels, Zebras etc etc..luckily we didn’t become their prey as we had on us the aroma of (烤肉) after the BBQ meal..

liger = hybrid species of tiger + lion

spot the zebras?
are they white with black stripes/black with white stripes?

From the wild world, the tour guide also took us for a 3D animation action movie & animal wonder stage where trained animals were used for the performance (how interesting? Try having pelicans flying over your head for instance)..haha
Then, we tried snow buster..

If you’ve been to Snow world up in Genting & have tried riding down icy trails on that don’t-know-how-to-describe thingy..then u can imagine that this activity is quite similar to the one in genting except that you ride down through snowy slopes..

snow buster on top..

to be continued...

a hit-on-head experience..

finally..after quite a long time of rest & reduced exercise rate..
plan of a badminton event sounds like a good idea afterall..

it's most fun when you hear...
"tock" ! ~~

bcoz it hits the jackpot..congratulations..
shuttlecock hit the back of my head..lala *see stars over my head
*ouchh~ ;(

haha..what have i done to you, lorence? *shows pitiful face...
i know i need sleep, blur & going half crazy..

but wow, that made me awake..yea..

and as if that's not enough to make me fully awake, there goes another hit with the racquet..
thank goodness not by lorence again, who's energetic despite of his 'grandpa' age..
in front of my head..luckily not my face..

horoscope probably would have predicted:
it is best to stay at home today, unexpected circumstances may occur if you're involved in curricular activities. Beware of physical hazards as you cant fully avoid them..lack of attention may cause you to get injured. Stay away from sports if possible..

let's see if i go cuckoo 2mr..maybe effect takes place & symptoms show only after a while
hope it doesn't swell..
*i dont want my head to be bigger than a 'mushroom' soft toy..lol

2nd March ~ Chapter 4

somebody, please shake me to remind me of coming back to reality..wake me up for goodness sake.

play time is officially over, so..welcome to the challenging world/life of a Monash university student, especially when they let you enjoy for 3 months & let you "enjoy" all the more once uni reopens at the beginning (which is already the final month of the 1st quarter of the year)..

why am i making it sound complicated? well, i dont know, dont bother..

promoting the great package deals wrapped in uni life which include:

1. "early-bird" classes
2. freely pick your own busy schedule
3. 'super' lecturers
4. crazy coursework
5. have fun in stress..stress while having fun
6. constantly updated course map/structure
7. 1st come 1st serve basis 'limited edition' notes/lab manuals (grab only while stocks last)
8. 'dead' datelines
9. killer exams
10. library freezing frenzy
11. patience-endurance test during queue at printer counters

accompanied with the all-worth-it complimentary set ~
multi-purpose course mates & friends who do the following:

i) provide emotional support before breakdown as a result of 'meet-the-dateline' syndrome

ii) appear staying up til late nights together rushing reports and having discussions etc..

iii) pals for entertainment

iv) company for fellowship over meals

v) platform for sharing tears and laughter via cyberspace, msn connection or thru real-time interactions

T & C applies:

*no additional charges apply for all of the above..

however, no money, no talk..please pay your fees within a week's time once you're enrolled..

hope you enjoy the "ups" of it, uni will not take responsibility of the 'down' sides you experience..

study at your on risk..thank you~

spent the 1st day of uni, nothing should be unfamiliar, but brain is practically still remains in holiday mood.

My BRAIN needs to be warmed up, for it has been resting for a while now, except when activated in play mode. I guess I'm not using my brain enough to think .. how pathetic *sigh

ok, i might have exaggerated about not knowing how to properly hold a pencil & write something because of the 3+ months summer holidays, but ask me to do an assignment, my brain goes blank..right away, probably in 2 seconds..

explanation: 1st for after receiving the info, the 2nd second nothing is generated in mind..

today, a person came & ask me for directions in uni:

"hi, are you a new student?"

me: "no.."

"ok, then do you know how to go to lecture hall 5001"

me: hmm, if i'm not mistaken, you need to go downstairs, it's at the basement..

"right, thank you"

the point is i had to THINK TWICE just to answer her when i've finished 3 sems in the very same campus..

monash is really good at making us blur, forget about everything & feel like a whole new stranger again for having long holidays after short semesters..

i only know there are a lot of bridges linking to various buildings..
in case i be a buddy, i'll be very successful in getting newbies into a 'lost-in-campus' adventure tour..

Heard some fellow course mates consisting of a pet panda, or the 'sour plump witch (aka sweet little fairy..if that makes 'you' feel better) and the maid mentioned about some classes teaching about bacteria, kinda attracts me to join in & listen to that lecture 'illegally' to check out how 'fun' the class would be, as it was described..

Perhaps i'm better off go attend a kindergarten instead..if it seemed uni students are addressed as 'children' by that particular lecturer..of course it's gonna stir up more interest than one who acts really mature in teaching..even though by that age, a lecturer would be mature by nature anyhow..

my attention span has dropped down to <50% (or even less) i think..

1 reason coz i'm deprived of sleep?
8am morning class is simply dreadful for people like me, unless i adjust my biological clock back to normal human time pattern..

i could listen for like, say, 15 minutes? (gosh, time passed by really slowly in class by d way) then my mind starts wandering off automatically, either just daydreaming or thinking about other things, which has nothing to do with lecture at all..

throughout 2 whole lectures, i managed to only been captured attention to listen to only 1 lecture slide, which felt more like story-telling, from a serious, no-joke lecturer..haha

hmm, i'm definitely not ready & mostly never fully prepared, thus surely need time to get use to the hectic life once again, brushing off worries and battling through tough assignments that come along the way..

"hocus-pocus~!!" .. i just wish i can "focus" to studies again real soon..

well, also more like i need to find self-motivation that drives me back on the 'books' track..
b'coz unfortunately..

there's no medicine discovered that can cure laziness yet, as of today, regardless of how advanced technology is in this modern era..

no other way than investing effort in our commitment as a student & prioritize with time wisely..

"faito faito", keep up the 'fighting' spirit yea, everyone..

to all the coursemates: gambateh, minna-san.. ~cheers =)

Day 3 ~ "ski"

Yeap, we’ve reached day 3..

another refreshing morning with the light winter breeze..

The main event of the day speaks it all – winter skiing

Breakfast at the lovely resort before we set out..

Our destination?
-- Yong Pyong Ski Resort

At the foothill, we proceeded to take a ‘Gondola Ride’ (or simply cable car) which lasted for about 20 minutes up to the snow mountain..quite a long way up really..

Here we are, playing with snow..had some snowball fights..but forgot to make snowman & snow angel..*sigh

taste of snow? hmm..try it yourself..

Snap some photographs by the beautiful view from the mountain, overlooking the bright blue sky & then later on went indoor to have our lunch before we continued with skiing

For lunch, we had ‘mushroom hotpot’ with a few different variety of mushroom..i think we forgot to take pics of the food we had again..haha

Anyways, charged & energized with lunch, we geared up for the ski activity..even though not all took part in it, since it’s the individual’s freedom to choose if they wanna try it out or not, in order to cater for other tourist’s needs..

The tour guide became the tutor/trainer & taught us to ski..lol..
Those who chose to go with their own plan, not going for ski could rest, relax, or hang out at the ski resort, enjoying other facilities, take their sweet time to wander around or just drink a nice hot cup of coffee indoors, chit-chat etc..

getting the gears..

Trying out at skiing, personally, I think it is rather similar to ice-skating, except that it gives a better, more stable foothold, with larger area of contact with the ground covered with snow, less balancing skills needed..

The basic steps actually, are easier than expected to be mastered, as long as you just need to know how to start skiing & the way to stop when necessary..somehow, you use the same methods for ice skating as well..

I do prefer skiing over ice skating as the ground is smooth with the soft snow, even if u fall, it won’t hurt anyways..skiing down the slope of the snow mountain gives a sense of thrill & satisfaction once you know how to ski..

some learning to snow-board

The only less-fun side of it is that you have to take off the ski gears, carry them back uphill in order to ski down again, after u ski downwards to ground level..that’s the tedious part of it..it was the first time I actually really felt warm being outdoors on a winter day..

otherwise, if one has trained enough to go pass the beginner, amateur & achieved the professional stage, then one can challenge to go all the way to the highest peak of the mountain, travelling up by the cable car instead..since it would be exhausting to walk all the way up there..

had enough of winter exercise, we rested at the hotel for a while..
then, out we went for dinner..u could guess it already, Korean cuisine really doesn’t involve much variety of cooking methods as Chinese style cuisine.

It’s another hotpot again, but one must not deny that it’s a suitable choice of meal as it warms you up really well especially by as night time approaches..what could be better than hotpots during winter time..i’m just worried of gaining much weight at the end of the trip..haha

Anyhow, one still couldn’t get bored with hotpots even though they’re served almost every day as the ingredients could be different, so for this meal, we had ‘dumpling & pork’ 火锅

Finished dinner, nothing much left because we got tired after the skiing..nothing beats a good night’s rest at the end of the day..

Skiing is a fun activity, at the resort, it was even available till night time but I’d tuck in to bed after all..anyway if I ever have another chance to go snow skiing again, I’d definitely give it another shot at it.. ;)
